An Open Player
Pekka Haavisto, the former Green party leader and minister of Environment, is trying to bring peace to war torn Sudan. One day he leads talks with Osama bin Ladens old friends and the next with Kofi Annan — and he does it all with a smiling face.
In Sudan people wonder about he’s open negotiation style. Is it possible not to have a double or a triple agenda?
European Expertise Available
Temporary work, unemployment, uncertainty. That seems to be the tale of a Finn with a Master’s degree. But how is it in other European countries?
International Students Suffer from Shortage of Courses
The University of Helsinki is concentrating on the development of english language master’s programmes. Bachelor-degree education in English is not yet to be increased.
Serious Fooling in Africa
Inspired by the organization Clowns Without Borders, clowns Roosa Hannikainen and Åsa Lundgren bring joy to Africa. Is it right to laugh when people around are dying?
The University of Hundreds of Islands
Students of University of South Pacific (USP) suggest that the university has more nationalities among its students than any other university in the world. USP is owned by a joint board of twelve Pacific nations: Fiji, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Samoa, Vanuatu, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Cook Islands, Nauru, Niue, Tuvalu and Tokelau Islands. In addition, the university is a tempting location for both degree and exchange students from for example Northern America and Asia.
Ylioppilaslehti visits the university and finds out for example how it is to graduate by e-mail.
