Bologna troubles Serbia

Latest issue: should old degrees of high studies be even with master degrees? Not all are sharing common thoughts about this problem: students are aware that the biggest problem is quantity of learning material, which is equal in both degrees. At the first breakpoint, Council of Universities took a stand that master degree and high degree should be equal. However, deans stopped this decision, and they are now waiting explanation from the Republic Parliament. To be worse, current elections are the main issue, and nobody cares for the students’ issue. Government gave its standpoint, however without consequences: deans are reluctant in their stand - only the Parliament has the authorization to give authentic explanation of this flaw in the law. In the meantime, different faculties are treating this question differently. Faculty of Technology in Novi Sad accepted that these degrees have to be even, but some other, like Law faculty - have not.

Extremism in Serbia

During the last few months, there were not a few, but severe extremely violent happenings in Serbia - at the antifascist discussion, members of the ultra right non-formal organization called „Nacionalni Stroj“(National Formation) threated to the participants and even attacked some. Massive arrests took place, but seldom are convicted. Chauvinistic excesses between football fans are here common thing, but threats on ethnic, racial or religious basis became alarming. In most of these cases, police intervenes with brute force - but the most worrying thing is that society remains indifferent in this issue for the long term.
