New, 68th issue of international student bussines magazine Manager has arrived! In it`s usual sections Economy, Faculty and Lounge you can find lots of interesting topics that you can read about and find something interesting for yourself!
You can download PDF version of Manager on :http//www.manager-magazine.com/images/68.pdf

It is Spring, everything around us blossoms, so does the technology. 21st century is turning into biotechnological century: GMO food, cloning, technological progress has speeded up significantly….. Maybe scenes from SF movies will become our reality in near future. Pros and cons? Possibilities? Find out in the latest number!
Kosovo has one of the most underdeveloped economies in Europe. We investigated what will be happening with their economy after they became independent and how did their economy function until now.
We interviewed professor Deša Mlikotin Tomić who said: “An economist must during his study master the skill to impose himself, make others listen and trust him”.
March has been in sign of Ekonomijada in Sarajevo where our journalists together with lots of other students have taken a relaxation from exams. An invasion of reality shows (Farma, Celebrity Big Brother, Top Model, Zvijezde pjevaju) started the very same weekend, we decided to give more space to Sarajevo.
March has also been marked by the biggest festival of documentary film in our region that is attracting more and more viewers every year. We bring you news from Zagrebdox. Baba’s and Apoljon’s corner offer you, once again, interesting views on the he-she relations. In Sports an Faculty we present you male and female volleyball players on our faculty.
This is just a glimpse of what we have prepared for you in this number, there is of course much, much more to discover and read about, so get your hands on ournew issue and….
….enjoy reading Manager!

The new Ekscentar is comprised of 152 pp. full colour (A4) and it has few highlights:

Theme of issue: Laser scanning

Laser scanning is a relatively new technology in Geomatics. This issue contains 54 pp. of professional and popular articles about LiDAR - ALS, TLS, an interview with prof. Vosselman from Enschede (NL), news and so on…

4 professional articles

Beside the theme, this Ekscentar contains four professional articles in its “regular” section. One article is from the field of Physical Geodesy and the remaining three from Engineering Geodesy. It is important to mention that one article is categorised as a original scientific paper on the peer-review which is a big step forward for a student magazine like Ekscentar.

10 popular articles

This issue is also interesting for its “popular” section of 10 interesting articles - almost every part of Geomatics is here! There is something for everyone.

Student life

It is hard to jump over this section - the student internship on the Adriatic island of Brač and the International Geodetic Students Meeting in Sofia. Also, there is a photo gallery of the celebration of Ekscentar’s 10th birthday.

This time learn…

the basics of Photoshop CS3. Photoshop is a graphic application sometimes very important in Geomatics. However, everyone is concentrated on CAD programs so we wanted to change this - learn the basics of Photoshop with this article (6 pp).

Free access to PDF

Ekscentar provides free PDF access on http://hrcak.srce.hr/Ekscentar

Hostels in Novi Sad

One of our major texts concludes a short research provided by one of our younger journalists, Sonja Žugić. This short résumé shows new efforts of young people in Novi Sad, who have recognized needs of international exchange, young travelers and flood of tourists, which visit EXIT festival every year. Until now, Novi Sad, second city in Serbia by size, had only one hostel – it was humble high school internat, “Brankovo kolo”. However, five years later, two young students at faculty of technical sciences, Bojan Jung and Dejan Ikonov, created project of youth new hostel. This hostel will have capacity of 124 places and average price should be 12 euros – breakfast included. Infrastructure is also adapted for disabled persons. This hostel will also automatically get IYHF quality certificate, and their staff will receive required training. Additionally, although hostels do not have some form of categorization, there is a kind of evaluation at three levels, and this project has the highest, third level mark.

Computer illiteracy

Are our students of social sciences, including law students, illiterate? Our journalist, Jelena Đukić has made an inquiry with astonishing results: at our faculty almost 80% of students has computer, and 65% thinks that informatics should be provided as obligation in our complete education system, including social sciences. However, one third of students never uses internet or has use it rarely, although they have a possibility to use it in faculty’s computer room or through free academic account that grants them free e-mail address and 3 hours via dial-up per day. More than one quarter of students stated that their knowledge of Word, Excel and Power point is poor, and only 2% evaluate their skill as excellent. Text also makes a dramatic question: why in a profession where more than elementary computer knowledge is required, there is no any so much needed (professional) initiative?

International:
Blackstorm – New rap star on sight, western unsigned artist who selled 15.000 copies of his newest artwork; unique in style, young man with perspective.
Dig deeper – This international interview has been made during European Law Students` Association gathering at Mt. Fruška Gora. It is conclusion of this edition`s theme: corruption in education. We made interviews with guests from region: Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Ex-Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia.

In this number also:

Student protests – List of student protests in world in last six months: where, why and how do students protest?
Global warming – The hottest news – will we survive another 100 years? Where do global dangers lie?
Dušan Popov: History of 007 – Based on a true story, this text is about Serbian secret agent codenamed „Tricycle“ on which story about James Bond has been based. More about you can read in a book – „Spy-Counterspy“ written by Dušan Popov.

Five questions on doctoral studies
Over 1 400 doctors graduate every year in Finland. Only every third of them can find work as a researcher — according to a ministery of education study 70 percent of them would want to.
Often doctors end up working in same professions as masters, or totally outside their own field like Pasi Haansuu, 39. Doctor of Sciences, he is now working as a gardener.

Education policy in Finland seems to be still based on an idea that more doctors mean more new innovations and finally more wealth for the nation. Is it really so and is studying years to be a doctor really worth it? Ylioppilaslehti poses five questions for students who consider applying for a postgraduate status.

The Doorkeeper
In the beginning of April Annika Forsander starts as Helsinki’s first Chief of Immigration Affairs. The international work as a researcher gives way to working as a civil servant in a huge organization employing 38 000 workers, only two percent of them immigrants. One of Forsander’s new challenges is to think how to make the figure araise.

A Serious case of Plagiarism in the Faculty of Humanities
A student of the Faculty of Humanities has presented a paper bought from the internet as his thesis. The most reasent as serious case of plagiarism took place in Helsinki university almost 10 years ago.
University does not keep track of plagiarism cases. Still, according to university’s deans this kind of serious plagiarism is very rare. At the same time, cases moving on the gray area are becoming more common.
